Craig David is the biggest R&B act the UK has seen since Michael Jackson, and since he was homegrown he became somewhat of a legend. You may be surprised to find out that he is only twenty and was only eighteen when he was embraced by his countrymen. His signing in the States was a matter of major labels doing anything and everything they could to sign the sensation.
David doesn’t let down. “Fill Me In” starts off Born to Do It right. It’s a new wave of pleasurable pop-mixed R&B. David’s voice is as sweet as honey and never lets up or tries to be something it isn’t. “Can’t Be Messing Around” is just as relentless. “7 Days” is hot and certainly my favorite track.
Even when David is out to seduce you, as with “Rendezvous”, he can still do it strong without giving in to cheesy metaphors. “Last Night” isn’t toned down nor anything you’ve heard before. “Time To Party” is refreshing.
Craig David knows how to sing and make you fall in love or party on the same album. That just doesn’t seem to happen much in the thugged out world of music these days. Craig David is more than a breath of fresh air; he’s a whole new breeze. And if you still aren’t sold, just borrow a friend’s copy and flip to track fourteen, “Rewind”. I have a feeling the experience will change any preconceived notions.
