Corporate Line: D12 will release their sophomore set, D12 World and features guest appearances from Obie Trice and B-Real and the production of Eminem, Kon Artis, Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Red Spyda, Sicknotes, and Trackboyz.
The Good:
“Loyalty” f/Obie Trice – D-12 delivers it gangland style and picks up the highway that the Wu-Tang Clan stopped building.
“Good Die Young” – If D-12 dropped more tracks like this we’d be putting them in the upper echelon of hip-hop crews.
The Average:
“My Band” – Funny–Eminem needs to stick with the rhyming and leave the singing behind. In an ironic twist—Eminem is the only one fans focus on because he’s leaps and bounds better than the rest of his crew.
“Git Up” – Eminem gets off a flow like Niagara Falls except its better left for Nelly.
“I’ll Be Damned” – Hot hook and that is it.
“Just Like U” – Twisted to the core and sure to leave thousands of delinquents in its wake.
The Ugly:
“B****” – Somebody’s angry.
Frankly: There is a cavernous gap between D-12 and NWA—why? Because NWA wrote smart rhymes while D-12 is too busy trying to be the next 2 Live Crew. If D-12 wants to be one of hip-hop’s super-groups then they better recruit a better supporting cast around Eminem. World isn’t entirely different than Devil’s Night consider the topics are the same and the lines sound reworked—there is even a sequel; “American Psycho 2.” Eminem sounds like he walked in, dropped some lines and left to go work on some other project. Even after laying a smack down I’ll admit that D-12 offers the rare crew that has chemistry and can flow with a sick-and-sixth sense. World is a raw kick in the groin.
