Who is D:Fuse? By day he is known as Dustin Fuselier from Austin, Texas, and as the late hours of the night approach you can find this crazed cowboy in the DJ booth raising hell. D:Fuse has been a key name in the progressive electronic dance movement over the past nine years and he continues to become a leader and innovator for the scene. With his trademark Psychotrance 2000 & 2001 series under his belt, again D:Fuse is back to punish you with his latest release, Progressive Mix Session 1.0.
I put the disc in, pressed play, and seventy minutes later I found myself addicted to another D:Fuse mix. From the opening bass drone of “Rumble Fish” by Tone Depth to the climatic fall and build of Orissa’s “Plasma”, the mix is unbelievably precise. The skills of D:Fuse’s mixes should be studied and classified as a sweet science in the genre of electronic beats. Progressive Mix is a classic example of a brilliant DJ capturing a vibe and supplying enough energy so continuously that it takes the listener or dancer to the point of no return.
The album was recorded unedited back in December 18, 2000 at The Lift Room in D:Fuse’s hometown of Austin. This night turned out to be no different for D:Fuse as he stayed true to his form by starting the beats out around 132 bpm with progressive heavyweights Driven Child (“Polar Tech”) and Tocharian (“Circadian Rhythms-Tocharian& Lewis mix”) leading the progressive charge. The pace quickens up to 137 bpm when D:Fuse adds some of his own gasoline to the fire with his own creation entitled “Bodyshock”. The crowd pleaser on the entire mix is easily track nine, Flip Skrapitch’s “Ksaut”. Just when you think you this track is going to be bunk, it comes back at you with terrorizing thunder.
If you have not heard of D:Fuse, don’t worry. You will.
