Company Line: The lyrics on Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz are as memorable as those “tig ole bitties” Da Brat tartly described in Mariah Carey’s Heartbreaker one of her contributions to remixes and original tracks by, among the many, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott (“Sock It 2 Me”), Destiny’s Child (“Survivor”), Jagged Edge (“Where The Party At?”), Dru Hill (“Sleeping In My Bed”) and the Grammy-nominated Missy, Lil’ Kim, Angie Martinez and the late great Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes joined her on, “Not Tonight.” The hooks still pull you up by the collar and make you hear, relate or maybe just bounce to what Da Brat has to say.
The Good:
“In Love Wit Chu” – Brat swims laps around a chorus that is sure to score her a hit single.
“Ain’t Got Time To Waste” – She’s got hooks and Brat knows how to use them.
The Marginal:
“World Premiere” – Da Brat beats the guys down. It’s not hard however when you have to take it to Jermaine Dupri who couldn’t rhyme his way out of a paper bag.
“Gotta Thing For You” – Surprisingly Mariah and Brat don’t mix as well as you’d expect.
“Get Somebody” – Nice.
The Ugly:
“Who I Am” – Weak.
“Boom” – Trashy and surprising to hear considering the rest of the album is classier. I guess this is where the niteclubz part of the album comes in. She should have left the club out.
“Got It Poppin” – If I have to hear Jermaine Durpi one more time I will choke him. He is the most annoying human on wax.
Frankly: Da Brat has a hot new look and a few hot hooks but the tail end of this record falls off the face of the earth. It goes from good to garbage and it seriously has too much Jermaine Dupri for any ones taste. Dupri needs to stick behind the boards and stop trying to be an M.C. He definitely likes to hear himself speak way too much and Brat suffers for it.
