Wu-Tang Clan – The W

Wu-Tang Clan
Artist: Wu-Tang Clan
Title: The W
Label: Loud
Rating: 8.5/10

Where is the hype? Where is the noise? It’s the original all-star game of hip-hop with the Wu-Tang Clan and yet the world isn’t bowing? Understandable after all its members went out on a solo binge producing less than spectacular offerings. But together they are a force yet to be reckoned with.

Surprises abound as The W. Snoop Dogg is the first outsider to join the ranks and litter a Wu-Tang album with his voice. Snoop announces, “The Wu is back up in this motherfucker,” on the album’s best, “Conditioner”. Snoop isn’t the last infiltration as Busta Rhymes joins the fold as well as reggae master Junior Reid comes to terms with the his own “One Blood”. Even the man himself, Isaac Hayes, lends a hand on “I Can’t Go To Sleep” with a sly use of “Walk On By”.

Don’t fear the fillers because Wu gets back to basics on “Careful”, “Gravel Pit”, “Protect Ya Neck” and the deep, dark “Chamber Music”. Wu-Tang isn’t just some average hip-hop outfit. They are truly supernatural and when they come together the power of the players is phenomenal. They’ve changed the face of hip-hop forever, together or apart, and The W will push their legend even further.
