Wyclef Jean – Masquerade

Wyclef Jean
Artist: Wyclef Jean
Title: Masquerade
Label: Columbia
Rating: 8/10

Wyclef has had a pretty amazing career. From the Fugees to a good solo career he’s sure we’re all ready to learn more about the Masquerade.

Hot:
“Peace God” – Another good track from top to bottom. Speak positive and walk the same way.

“PJ’s” – Escaping the ghetto isn’t easy, but its possible and Wyclef tells you how.

“You Say Keep It Gangsta” – Sing the song of the innocent. Wyclef is a hit maker without making radio hits.

“Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” – Enlighten us please.

“Party Like I Party” – Monday, Tuesday, well you get it.

Chill:
“Masquerade” – Good hook, but lacking rhymes.

“Oh What A Night” – Sort of a remix, which kicks some hilarious rhymes and some not so well.

“War No More” – A timely, but sort of silly track on 9/11 about being in the airport.

Cold:
“80 Bars” – Wyclef is better as a melody maker than a rapper.

This is quite possibly Wyclef’s best record, aside from the Fugees The Score. But when it comes to solo releases Masquerade is pound for pound his best.
