Robbie Williams – Escapology

Robbie Williams
Artist: Robbie Williams
Title: Escapology
Label: Virgin
Rating: 7/10

The Good:
“Love Somebody” –Williams is trying hard, is he seeking his heartfelt feelings or trying to make us believe in his every word? It doesn’t really matter.
“Something Beautiful” – A gorgeous ballad that might invoke thoughts of Stevie Wonder. Too bad it comes off a little whiny.
“Feel” – Nothing but a lovely pop tart.
“Monsoon” – Starts slow out of the box and the verses lag, but the chorus cranks it up another notch.
“Me And My Monkey” – Bizarre, but the humor is one reason many fans love Williams.
“Nan’s Song” – A lovely tribute to his late grandmother.

The Marginal:
“Handsome Man” – Funny, just not all that good.
“How Peculiar” – Dips back into the self-effacing lyrics.
“Sexed Up” – Breaking up is ugly.“Come Undone” – Originally thought it was going to be a cover of Duran Duran, but after listening to it I sort of wish it were.

The Bad:
Nada.

Frankly: Robbie Williams has always had problems being more than a tag line in America because of his attitude and seemingly too cool snootiness that America just never wanted to embrace. Give Williams credit, he wrote or co-wrote each track.

Regardless of what you think of the guy he takes his music seriously and Escapology isn’t his best work, but it sure shows the guy is a diamond and shouldn’t go ignored.
