Company Line: Poodle Hat is Produced by Al himself (as his albums have been for more than a decade), the disc includes 12 tracks on which the two-time Grammy winner and best-selling pop satirist unleashes his wit on songs by Eminem, Nelly, Avril Lavigne, Backstreet Boys and piano man Billy Joel. Al also digs into the nu-metal and garage rock crazes, crossbreeding hits by Papa Roach, System Of A Down, Rage Against The Machine, The White Stripes, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit and others on the medley, “Angry White Boy Polka.”
The Good:
“Ebay” – If you use Ebay you’ll die laughing. Positive feedback. “Junk arrives in the mail from that worldwide garage sale” Hilarous.
“A Complicated Song” – Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious time and again.
“Ode To A Superhero” – “Sling us a web, you’re the spider man”. Hilarious.
The Marginal:
“Couch Potato” – Al has run the TV theme into the ground. His vocals are probably funnier than the content.
“Bob” – Written in palindrome and certainly a lot of work too bad it’s not that interesting to listen to.
“Trash Day” – Funny the first and second time, but gets old quick.
“Party At The Leper Colony” – You will chuckle a few times.
The Ugly:
“Hardware Store” – One original concept that falls flat.
“Angry White Boy Polka” – Most songs weren’t distinguishable and the rest I could have cared about.
“Genius In France” – Yawn.
Frankly: I don’t think Weird Al gets enough credit for his vocals. The guy mimics practically anyone. It’s unfortunate that there are only a few tracks worth listening to.
