Scott Wilkie knew since the age of six that the piano and music would be his passion for life. After years of studying the dynamics of music, he has progressed into a respected jazz musician. Wilkie was behind the sound design (synth programming) for the broadway production Beauty and the Beast, he arranges music for the NHL’s Mighty Ducks, and he still managed to find time to create and release this beautiful new collection, Boundless. This eleven-song album is stacked with talented special guests that include the likes of Nathan Brown, Matthew von Doran, David Owens, Paul Jackson Jr., and many other respectable jazz players.
Boundless is an emotional roller coaster; the songs range from up- tempo jazz to slow and romantic. Many of the songs feature improvisational playing among the musicians. The bouncy rhythms of “Chasing the Dream” and “Sailcats” are extremely mood enhancing. Boundless is pieced together intelligently; the songs are arranged in order so that the listener gets a taste of both upbeat contemporary jazz and the slow and beautiful grace of jazz. You will find no vocals; the music does the talking for the entire album. Anybody who enjoys Stevie Wonder and contemporary jazz should definitely give Scott Wilkie’s CD a spin. You will enjoy Boundless more each time you listen to it.
