After a listen to Brooke Allison’s self-titled release, you can’t help but make some comparisons to the likes of Britney Spears. The shameless “The Kiss-off (Goodbye)” doesn’t do anything to enhance Allison’s charm. It’s pretty tasteless and was probably as cliché the day it was recorded as it is listening today.
Then comes the “Rollercoaster” heading toward the tunnel of lame. I suffered through “I Miss You”. Diane Warren set the standard for the ballad; it’s just a shame that everyone else tries to follow her lead yet falls so absolutely short. “Perfect Chemistry” tries so hard to let Allison set her voice loose, but with such poor songs it’s almost impossible to know how good she could really be.
All you have to do is look at Madonna. She has an average voice, but her songs are always good. When you have someone with a huge voice, it doesn’t instantly mean we have to enjoy their songs. Brooke Allison can obviously sing. It’s just too bad her people chose so many bad songs.
