Vertical Horizon – Go

Vertical Horizon
Artist: Vertical Horizon
Title: Go
Label: RCA
Rating: 5/10

Our Line: Vertical Horizon sounds a bit lofty. Perhaps they could rethink the name, perhaps Horizontal Horizon.

The Good: Not so quick.

The Average:
“When You Cry” and “I’m Still Here” – Do they try to sound so vanilla.
“Forever” – When the song came on you have to wondered if its still “I’m Still Here”.. The only difference is the chorus. Shooting for a big lush epic sound seems out of their range. It might get them some play on radio and in high school dances.
“One Of You” – I didn’t know these guys had distortion pedals. Well, color me surprised. The one rare non-monotonous track.
“It’s Over” and “Won’t Go Away” – Somewhere Tonic is very angry.

The Ugly: Not so glaring.

Frankly: The problem with Vertical Horizon is the same with most rock bands today – vanilla. No not the flavor, it’s about the music they make which doesn’t separate Vertical Horizon from a hundred other bands. Someone, the producer, A&R guy, band members, manager, anyone, has to hear just how plain this music is. I can’t be the only one left wondering when someone will break this curse of yawn rock.
