Angela Via – Angela Via

Angela Via
Artist: Angela Via
Title: Angela Via
Label: Atlantic
Rating: 4.5/10

The first thing you notice about eighteen-year-old Angela Via is her big booming voice. “Picture Perfect” goes from simple vocalized pop to Via breaking out with a Mariah Carey type falsetto.

Carole King and Via teamed up to write “Stay Together”. It’s just too bad that track is a typical ballad with no originality. From this track on, I began to get pretty bored. I enjoyed her voice, but the songs are lacking any really good hooks or imagination. It just sounds like everything else that’s out today and all I can think is that Christina Aguilera did the same thing months ago.

The intro to “I Don’t Care” gave me hope, but somehow it gets right back on the same old train ride. It seems the album’s many producers are happy to make Via a Christina Aguilera sound-alike. What a huge mistake. The songs are clich and steal from other artists vocally, lyrically, and melodically. This album goes from great to terrible. I’m just glad they decided to leave “Catch Me If You Can”, the single from the Pokemon soundtrack, on the album, even though it’s only the bookend to an unsatisfactory release.
