The Good:
“Seconds Of Pleasure” – Van Hunt breaks out his best Smokey Robinson flavor and sassiness.
The Average:
“What Can I Say” – Tender ballad that is missing that ‘it’ to take you higher.
“Out Of The Sky” –
“Dust” – Van Hunt brings a fresh style if only it weren’t so understated and timid.
“Hello, Goodbye” – Prince figures into the equation without all the ubiquitous sexual lyrics and off putting overtones. Its slick, it’s sly, and it works.
The Ugly:
“Highlights” – The rare track where Van Hunt misses the mark.
Frankly: Van Hunt twists and turns somewhere between Prince and Smokey Robinson. There is soul and thankfully it’s not someone trying to make today’s pop work with that same old boring R&B sound. Van Hunt finds his roots deep in the ‘70s while making it all his own. The only thing lacking are memorable hooks that keep you coming back for more.
