CORPORATE LINE: Van returns in 2005 with his self-produced new cd Magic Time. Featuring ten new Van Morrison songs as well as interpretations of three jazz classics, Magic Time is set to arrive in stores this May. Magic Time is the 38th solo release of Van’s illustrious career and also marks the 40th anniversary of his first hits with the band Them.
THE GREAT:
“Stranded” – As soothing as a nice warm bath.
“Celtic New Year” – An astral delight. Morrison still has it!
“The Lion This Time” and Lonely and Blue” – Both tracks have that special kind of tenderness and soul.
“They Sold Me Out” and Carry on Regardless” – Morrison isn’t going without a fight and this speaks to the music industry and everyone else who wrote him off.
THE AVERAGE:
“Gypsy In my Soul”
“Just Like Greta” – A nice tribute to the icon Greta Garbo.
THE BAD:
Nothing.
FRANKLY: Van Morrison is still doing it today long after being ignored by popular radio. It’s a shame that Magic Time won’t get a wider audience because it certainly deserves it and “They Sold Me Out” speaks on that. Fans will be ecstatic—those who haven’t listened to Van Morrison don’t know what they are missing.
