The Cardigans – Long Gone Before Daylight

The Cardigans
Artist: The Cardigans
Title: Long Gone Before Daylight
Label: Koch
Rating: 5/10

OUR LINE: Their back… but are they better than ever?

THE GREAT:
“03.45: No Sleep” – Gorgeous. The Cardigans finally get it right with this tearjerker.

THE AVERAGE:
“Please Sister” – A good track. It is simple and sweet even though it has nothing to hold onto.
“You’re The Storm” – Slowly builds but never climaxes.
“Communication” – Starting of a record with a ballad is either brilliant or stupid—it’s the latter. “Communication” isn’t bad—it’s monotonous.
“And Then You Kissed Me” – The Cardigans travel the long and windy road of Sleepville as does “Couldn’t Care Less.”
“For The Boys” – The only non-ballad on the record comes much too late to do any good.

THE BAD:
“For What It’s Worth” – As bland as a bread and water dinner.

FRANKLY: The Cardigans gained our love over one hit near ten years ago and then baffled us with Gran Turismo and now we’re baffled again—with a timid release. It’s been five years between releases and the Cardigans are still trying to shake the cobwebs. The Cardigans sum up Long Gone Before Daylight best when they sing: “I couldn’t care less.”
