CORPORATE LINE: Greetings from Imrie House collects 11 timeless power-pop confections, odes to both the good, clean and naughtily winking sorts of fun. They capture the former in the sunny tones of the artfully sleek first single “Just The Girl,” and the shimmering “Catch Your Wave” (which layers Beach Boys-styled harmonies atop a contagiously jittery new wave melody) and dive into the latter on the young lovers lust-fest “Friday Night.” And to prove those pop history lessons stuck with ’em, they even include a cover of the Tommy James classic “I Think We’re Alone Now,” done up new wave style.
THE GREAT:
“Just The Girl” – A hook that is sure to be absorbed by radio. It’s hard to say it’s truly great but it’s certainly infectious. This might be the guilty pleasure of the year.
THE AVERAGE:
“I’ll Take My Chance” – I’m torn. In one hand this is a cute little song that will appeal to teenage girls—but not necessarily the rest of the population.
“Angel To You (Devil To Me)” – A guitar solo is definitely interesting but it’s merely another teenbopper pop song that just might be a hit.
“Good Day” – The hook is there and it’s obvious that this could carry teen girls away.
“Catch Your Wave” – A little too pop/punk—which we already have too much of—although there is an almost Hall and Oates vibe.
THE BAD:
“Lies” – This cover would have been better off left behind.
FRANKLY: The click Five is a cross between a boy band and a rock band. What is odd about The Click Five, and may not resonate well with fans, is that they go from a harder song like “Resign” into a poppy Fountains of Wayne style song like “Pop Princess.” The Click Five is much better at bringing the sugary, sweet pop—even though the occasional guitar solo keeps the level of cool high.
