Straight from Ireland, The Corrs are made up of one brother and three sisters who spread traditional Irish sounds over modern pop to produce a spirited brand of music. Talk On Corners is full of lush choruses and powerful vocals and harmonies.
It’s no coincidence that “When He’s Not Around” and “Queen Of Hollywood” sound like Alanis Morissette tunes considering that her super producer/composer Glen Ballard had his hands on this project. Though neither song compares to the masterpieces that Ballard produced with Morissette, both are great pop songs. “I Never Loved You Anyway” is one of two ballads on the album co-written with Grammy winning lyricist Carole Bayer Sager. The other is the Celine Dion-ish “Don’t Say You Love Me”. Both have hit written all over them, although more for their sugary pop than their lyrical content.
The Corrs’ covers of Stevie Nicks’ “Dreams” and Jimi Hendrix’ “Little Wing” were poor choices. Although “Dreams” sounds nice, it hardly compares to the original. The addition of these two cover songs seems to be a sign of laziness, not lack of talent. Putting two mediocre renditions on an album of original material is completely unwarranted for a band trying to invade America. The Corrs have the potential, but if they plan on taking it to the next level, then strong original songs are what they need.
