Creed – Weathered

Creed
Artist: Creed
Title: Weathered
Label: Wind-Up
Rating: 7/10

Rock on! That must be Creed’s motto as Weathered comes with much anticipation and a lot more rock ‘n’ roll to go around.

“Bullets” offers distinct Alice In Chains venom, but the verses sparkle while the chorus gets lost in the contortion. “My Sacrifice” goes from cold to hot in an instant. No need to hang around the back when the coals stay hot all night long.

“Who’s Got My Back?” is a good question searching for more than punching power. There is a search for truth and one or two lost souls. The agony and pain are pronounced, and it would seem that this is why Creed has such a core of listeners. “One Last Breath” and its heartened delivery that will garnish listen after listen. As much as you may desire Creed’s lovely ballads, there is something said for overdoing it. The end of the album brings a handful of ballads, some better than others, “Lullaby” for instance, but many just get lost in the mix.

Maybe you bought the cd because of Creed’s previous hits or because you wanted to see if Creed had anything left, but it’s the heart and soul that will bring you back for many albums to come. Creed may not be original, they might not be great, but there is no indifference here. There’s no desperation. There is something wholly blessed and loved as you listen. It’s absorbing and rewarding, something music doesn’t seem to bring to the table much these days.
