Creeper Lagoon has been this sort of band that has lived in infamy for years. You heard about them but didn’t really know much about them. Enigmatic is certainly a good way to describe them. I Become Small And Go was on a tiny label yet won major accolades from the press. And now they are back with a major release and renewed vigor as they Take Back The Universe And Give Me Yesterday.
The opener, “Chance Of A Lifetime”, is as non-threatening as rock ‘n’ roll can be. But somehow even without rebel roots it still wears into your psyche. “Wrecking Ball” starts out slowly but transforms into a full on ass kicking.
Singer Ian Sefchick brings his own style to make Creeper Lagoon more than just every band. “Naked Days” allows him to take his sound and make it tender and soulful. “Dead Man Saloon” begins the climb that results into “Hey Sister”.
Creeper Lagoon isn’t all about taking it easy. “Keep From Moving” is over seven minutes and one of the album’s best. It takes a little time invested to find your way into Creeper Lagoon, but once you are inside it’s a wonderful place to be.
