Sheryl Crow – Wildflower

Sheryl Crow
Artist: Sheryl Crow
Title: Wildflower
Label: A&M
Rating: 6.5/10

FILE UNDER: Sheryl Crow at her usual.

THE GREAT:
“Perfect Lie” – Crow has the key. This is similar to most of Sheryl Crow’s great songs because the hook sparkles and shines.
“Good Is Good” – For anyone who thought Crow’s career was on the demise only needs to hear “Good Is Good” to realize she still has it. Crow can still pull out a great song when she needs to. This would be a huge country hit. It gets you right in all the right places.

THE AVERAGE:
“I Know Why” – Lovely Sheryl Crow style. And yet it is the same old thing that she always offers—a low key pop song.
“Wildflower” – Sheryl Crow’s high falsetto doesn’t fit her.
“Live It Up” – An attempt at rocking out that never really rocks.

THE BAD:
Nothing.

FRANKLY: Sheryl Crow is certainly better than Wildflower shows. The issue with Wildflower is the tempo–it’s too slow and filled with ballads. Crow knows how to rock and doesn’t show it. The last record had “Steve McQueen” and “Soak Up The Sun” and this record has nothing like that. She tries with “Live It Up” but it doesn’t muster up that kind of spirit.
