Ali – Heavy Starch

ali
Artist: Ali
Title: Heavy Starch
Label: Universal
Rating: 7.5/10

Ali is one quarter of the St. Lunatics coming straight from St. Louis and representing all the country grammar.

You gotta pump this:
Boojeto – slick, sly, and full of groove.
360 – Ali’s laid back style give the track more truth than a slick melody could.
Serious – tight and entertaining.
Car Don’t Smell – the St. lunatics doing the beastie boys is sweet.
Crucial – finally a little soul to shine through all the bling.
Walk Away – there is some heart in the mid-west.
Collection Plate – a little lunatic and a little outkast.
Passin’ Me By – simply entertaining.

Easy come, easy go:
I Got This – had it hot until you realize a minute through you’ve heard it all before.
No.4 – melody is on, but too much everyone and too little Ali.
Drop Top – country grammar without Nelly and without the great hook.
Wiggle – Nelly grabs the hook but that is all that comes off.
The Beast – a little from the school of UTFO sort of sounds fresh.

If it skips let it go:
Ore Ore – braggadocious nonsense.

Ali isn’t picking up where Nelly left off, but his voice isn’t sing-song either. Ali has a harder, crunchier style that comes off more down to earth and it works.
