What the world needs now is a Cracker greatest hits album like I need a hole in my head. Okay, that is harsh, but after hearing the album’s first track, “Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now)”, I couldn’t resist. Lead man David Lowery claims “We were standing like the last rock band on the planet.” I find that a little hard to swallow considering I haven’t even heard anything from any of their albums, aside from Kerosene Hat whose claim to fame was the semi-hit “Low”.
As a group, Cracker isn’t entirely bad. I find it hard to believe that they are releasing a greatest hits album only eight years after their first release, not to mention that many of these tracks are basically average. Along with the hit “Low” came “Get Off This”, which was the second single from Kerosene Hat, and one of the few fun songs on this album. In the end, Garage D’or seems to only have been made because the group couldn’t conjure up more than three new tracks. Perhaps I’m wrong, but this record seems to be one we could have done without.
Bonus Disc:
The bonus disc is lamer then disc one. The only track worth a listen is the live track “You Ain’t Going Nowhere”, which guests Adam Duritz and Joan Osborne. Besides that, it’s a complete waste.
