Collective Soul – Greatest Hits

Collective Soul
Artist: Collective Soul
Title: Greatest Hits
Label: Atlantic
Rating: 4/10

There is always a question of why when it comes to greatest hits albums. Collective Soul have modest hits. I’m a fan of there’s, I’ve seen them live, I’ve talked to them, I’ve enjoyed their music for years.

The hits: “Shine”. Although I still don’t care for this song, it can’t be denied how huge this song was for these guys. “Run” is a track I seriously enjoyed when Dosage was busy letting me down. “Why Pt. 2” does it. “The World I Know” is their best song next to a few from Collective Soul that were left off. However, they did include “December”.

On the bubble: “Gel”, “Precious Declaration”, and “Forgiveness”.

The duds: “She Said” isn’t a hit. The new tracks “Energy” and “Next Homecoming” are lame and not worthy of being included.

I guess if this album is what it takes to finally turn some people on to Collective Soul, then so be it. I’d be happy then, but when these albums come out it’s just about the money. Collective Soul are one of the most underrated bands in music today. Their collection of music has stood the test of time and is better than most bands around today. I stand by what I’ve always said about greatest hits: if this is worth listening to, then instead you should buy each of their albums. If you can’t afford to do that, then this as good as it can get.
