Phil Collins – A Hot Night In Paris

Phil Collins
Artist: Phil Collins
Title: A Hot Night In Paris
Label: Atlantic
Rating: 5/10

From the start the album reminded me of shopping at one o’clock in the morning for pop and chips. Don’t get me wrong, the band is excellent, but this disc had me wishing Phil Collins would break out and start crooning. This album may suit the older cats that Phil had always been just a few years too cool for, but I just kept getting this curious hankering for potato chips.

There are some hopping tracks, like “Sussudio”, “That’s All”, and “Against All Odds”. As musicians these guys are great, but I was bored. Phil Collins is a great artist, though he is better off sticking to singing rather than hiding behind the drums with a big band that carries his name. If lovely background music is what you are looking for, then this is a great buy. If you are looking for some Phil Collins to wet your appetite, he has plenty of old releases to give you the fix you need.
