Straight outta Charlottesville, Virginia, in the shade of the Blue Ridge Mountains, comes Parachute on Mercury Records. Currently on tour with fellow IDJ artist Jon McLaughlin, Parachute released “She is Love” as their first lead single on iTunes in full band (album) and acoustic versions.
Tens of thousands of New Year’s Eve revelers at Times Square in New York City got an early look at Parachute, when they kicked off the annual six-hour celebration with a live performance (including “She Is Love”) on the Nivea Countdown Stage at Duffy Island on 46th Street. It was the prelude to Nivea’s hourly “Kiss And Be Kissed” practice ritual at the Nivea platform a block away. Lead single “She is Love” (in its acoustic and album versions) has been picked up by Nivea for a new series of commercial spots running through February.
The tour dates with McLaughlin come on the heels of McLaughlin and Parachute’s exclusive live performances two weekends ago at the Island Def Jam Music Group’s House Of Hype at the Sundance Film Festival, in honor of the 25th anniversary of Def Jam Recordings and the 50th anniversary of Island Records. McLaughlin and Parachute appeared on “Park City TV” while in town for the festival.
Parachute – Will Anderson (guitars, piano, lead vocals), Kit French (saxophone, keyboards, vocals), Alex Hargrave (bass), Johnny Stubblefield (drums), and Nate McFarland (lead guitar, vocals) – were formerly known as Sparky’s Flaw when they began playing together in high school and later on as students at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. They eventually signed with Charlottesville, VA based Red Light Management, while gaining a loyal grass roots following playing over 200 shows along the east coast last year alone.
