Common – Electric Circus

Common
Artist: Common
Title: Electric Circus
Label: MCA
Rating: 7.5/10

Common had a concept and that was Electric Circus. It’s a little Beatles and a lot Hendrix. He has a small picture of Jimi Hendrix mixed into a collage with others, but it seems Hendrix influenced this more than anyone else.

Electric:
“The Hustle” – The vibe is on fire.
“Between Me, You & Liberation (feat. Cee-Lo) – Hot beat, hot vocals, and the rhymes are for all times.
“Come Close” and “Heaven Somewhere”

In The Middle:
“Electric Wire Hustler Flower” (feat. Sunny of P.O.D.)
“Soul Power”

Fizzles:
“Ferris Wheel”– Too jumbled.

Too many collages of sounds come crashing together making it overly ambitious. It’s too busy to enjoy at times and that leaves you wonder what could have been if Common had exercised a little restraint. It is however a step in a groovy direction.
