Confrontation Camp – Objects In The Mirror are Closer Than They Appear

Confrontation Camp
Artist: Confrontation Camp
Title: Objects In The Mirror are Closer Than They Appear
Label: Artemis
Rating: 5/10

Confrontation Camp isn’t some unknown crew. Though lead mouth is unknown singer Kyle Ice Jason, he has two forces backing him in Public Enemy’s Chuck D. and Professor Griff. The album is basically a rock album with surging rhymes. Think early Rage Against The Machine. It’s ironic that Rage Against The Machine made their careers off of what Chuck D. did ten years ago and now Chuck D. is doing what made Rage millionaires. Talk about full circle. In all actuality, Professor Griff released an album quite similar to this release about ten years ago called Pawns In The Game, but you can’t find it anywhere as it’s no longer in print.

So you see, Professor Griff was way ahead of his time and actually the pioneer in the rap-metal hybrid genre. I hope Limp Bizkit and Rage remember that. And here he is letting it all out again. Track after track there’s a lot to gather, even after dozens of listens. Hip-hop fans shouldn’t be scared away, just as metal fans shouldn’t run for the hills. If any group can bring together fans from all walks of life, it’s Confrontation Camp. It doesn’t hurt that you have perhaps the number one MC of all time hitting you off time and time again.

“Jasper” is perhaps the most emotional track. It sends the sort of shivers that Chuck D. has given us for over a decade. Would you believe me if I told you that Chuck D. might have a radio hit? “Che” has the sort of melody that dominates the message and might suck radio jocks in. “Babies Makin Babies Killin Babies” has the same vibe, but that title will scare a lot of people away. The message is true and perhaps it’s about time we paid it some attention. Although this album will be cast aside by most, just like the confrontational albums by Public Enemy and Professor Griff, it has a message that should be heard. If you have the heart, give it a try, and if you’ve lost your soul, you just might find it.
