Ciara – Goodies

Ciara
Artist: Ciara
Title: Goodies
Label: LaFace
Rating: 7/10

CORPORATE LINE: Sho’Nuff /La Face/Zomba Label Group recording artist Ciara proves that an ambitious 18-year old can succeed at what she sets her mind to. She has had the dream of becoming a singer for as long as she can remember. Her blazing single “Goodies” featuring Petey Pablo (which she co-wrote with Sean Garrett (Usher’s “Yeah”)) steadily moves up on several charts. With a Billboard Hot 100 listening audience of almost 20 million, Ciara has tapped into every format – up to # 6 on the Top 40 Rhythm Monitor, # 13 on the R&B mainstream chart, and to #24 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart and continues to climb daily.

Dubbed as the First Lady of “Crunk & B”, Ciara is only the second artist (the first was Usher with his hit single “Yeah”) to release a Crunk & B song. Says Lil’ Jon of the newly-formed genre, “Crunk & B songs are R&B songs that get you crunk. They make you wanna wild out. [‘Goodies’] is a female empowerment record. The female has the power. The female is in control on this song. This is one of those records for the ladies.”

THE GREAT:
“Goodies” – Could have easily gone to Janet Jackson yet sounds hot coming from the newcomer Ciara. “One, Two Step” is exactly the same. Is Ciara going to fill the void left by Janet’s inability to make great records and of course sabotaging her career?
“Thugstyle” – Like a tornado… Ciara has come out of nowhere.

THE AVERAGE:
“Hotline” – It’s hot… there is no doubt—however the lyrics aren’t on par with the melody.

THE BAD:
“Looking At You” – Bland.

FRANKLY: Ciara has the skills to take over the seat recently been vacated by Janet Jackson. With three or four singles, “Goodies” might be the biggest surprise in R&B this year. Look out world, here comes Ciara.
