Clarence Greenwood a.k.a. Citizen Cope is literally a one-man band. The music is interesting to say the least. It’s filled with R&B, soul, rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, and a good deal more than you can shake a stick at.
“Contact” address the improprieties in the American system of punish and not educate. “Let The Drummer Kick” brings a solid hook and beat with an underlying message. “Appetite (For Lightenin’ Dynamite)” is perhaps the albums best song. It’s quite low-key however after a few listens it grows on you like moss.
“If There’s Love” is a simple, lovely love song. “Salvation” and “Comin’ Back” both sound like modern takes on the blues standard “Crossroads”. “Hands Of The Saints” give hope in the face of their predecessor’s pain.
Citizen Cope is coming with a little something different from your usual pop/rock garbage that is being mass-produced today. Cheer for the artists who have yet to sacrifice their souls to the industry.
