Company Line: Kelly Clarkson’s became a household name when her soulful voice captured the hearts and minds of millions when she was voted the American Idol in September of 2002.
The Good:
“The Trouble With Love Is” – A big power-pop track that Clarkson brings home.
“Miss Independent” – Co-written with Christina Aguilera and you can hear it. You have to wonder in a face-off who would have sung it better, Clarkson or Aguilera.
“You Thought Wrong” – Clarkson goes off and it doesn’t hurt that she has Tamyra Gray to give her a boost.
The Marginal:
“Low” – Not bad, just that big voice of Clarkson trying to make up for bland lyrics.
“A Moment Like This (Remix)” – Not a better version of the American Idol single.
“Anytime” – An overdone ballad that sounds like a track Celine Dion rejected. It wants to be an epic. It’s just too bad it never reaches those levels.
“Thankful” – A nice offering, just doesn’t utilize her amazing gift.
“What’s Up Lonely” – Not bad or very adventurous.
“Some Kind Of Miracle” – A ballad, just not one that you will be blown away by.
The Ugly:
“Beautiful Disaster” – Could have been left behind.
Frankly: Kelly Clarkson has a magnificent voice. She can cover any genre and it seems like they wanted us to recognize that only we never get a chance to know Clarkson’s voice as well as we could. I’d almost prefer to hear Clarkson sing country than power-pop songs, we can leave those for Christina Aguilera who has more of an edge. Clarkson is more a cross between Celine Dion and Faith Hill. Hopefully the next time around Clarkson will be given tracks that better suit her.
