Cherry Poppin’ Daddies – Soul Caddy

Cherry Poppin' Daddies
Artist: Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Title: Soul Caddy
Label: Mojo
Rating: 4/10

Cherry Poppin’ Daddies seem to have turned in their zoot suits in exchange for drag costumes from the closet of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. “Diamond Light Boogie” has that asexual fascination and desire. Color me confused.

Could you possibly make a song more dated than “Swingin’ With Tiger Woods”? Asinine. “God Is A Spider” is nothing but cheese metal straddled by ska. “Soul Cadillac” fits nowhere on the album. It has a sweet melodic drive with no direction. CPD go to their roots on “So Long Toots”. It’s a ballroom song with horns blaring that crazy razzmatazz. Sinatra may have enjoyed the melancholy mission of “Saddest Thing I Know”, and I’m sure ol’ blue eyes would have made it more edible. I don’t get Soul Caddy. Diversity can be good in the right hands, but

CPD hasn’t made it so comfortable. Covering five or six genres on one album is just insane. Soul Caddy has no cohesion and that ruins the enjoyment.
