Is this country? I hope not. If so, I’ve got a lot of explaining to do. I have to admit I love Kasey Chambers’ album, The Captain, but it’s her voice that struck me well before I realized what I was getting into. There is no way to describe it and that is what makes it special.
What else impressed me was that Chambers writes all of her songs. Not bad for such a young girl. She has a lot to say and a history that could support songs for the rest of her days. “The Captain” is a sweet cynical taste. “The Flower” is a tender love pact.
The storytelling on “Mr. Baylis” could be no more picturesque. If you’re still not sold on this, then country fans can be comforted by “The Hard Way”. I however fell for “Last Hard Bible”. Kasey can get gritty as well as sweet. I’m enchanted. Kasey Chambers has me floored.
