Who? Twenty something Vanessa Carlton.
Sounds like? Tori Amos and Fiona Apple
Be:
“A Thousand Miles” – Lovely tribute to love.
“Pretty Baby” and “Sway” – Both tracks that touch a nerve.
Between be and not:
“Ordinary Day”
“Unsung”
“Rinse” – A look at love, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
“Paradise” – Simple and easy listening.
“Wanted” – The hyperactive piano actually holds the song upright.
“Paint It Black” – A nice cover of the Rolling Stones hit.
Not:
Nothing you should skip over.
Finally? Vanessa Carlton has a nice album. Be Not Nobody shows some signs of powerful imagery and tenderness. She does give nods to Amos and Apple, but without the acid tongue.
