Chillin’ with Aaron Carter!
Wouldnt it be great to have everything Aaron Carter has? Some people may think so. Right now Aaron Carter is on the top of the world. He has a famous brother in Nick of the Backstreet Boys, a record put out with Jive, the hottest pop label in the world, and fans all over the earth.
I caught Aaron in LA shooting five videos in the middle of a long hot summer. His spirits were high in anticipation of his upcoming release, Aarons Party (Come Get It). If you havent heard of him yet, prepare yourself, because soon hell soon be everywhere. Here he comes.
Do you have all the videos figured out?
Im still trying to get one down. (laughs)
When did you finish the album?
A few months ago.
Nice to get it done?
Oh, yeah.
You seem to be right in the middle of a lot of big musical acts. Your brother, being on Jive with Britney, NSYNC, Backstreet. Is there a lot of pressure?
Im actually pretty used to it now. Ive grown up with it in my life. Ive been doing this for so long that I cant even remember.
You were big overseas long before America had a chance to discover you. Was it intimidating going over there?
It was a lot of fun, but the first few times it was really scary. I kind of got used to going over there.
What was it like to see all the different countries?
It was really fun. I go over there so much now that it seems almost normal.
Like a second home?
Almost. (laughs)
Is there any country you like to visit the most?
Malaysia.
Any reason?
The fans there are just so great.
How do the fans react overseas?
Actually its pretty crazy. There are a lot of fans in some cities and then others there wont be as many. In the United States they dont really know me that well so its not as insane yet. Like in South America, Germany, Malaysia are all crazy.
How long have you been on Jive?
About a year, I think.
How is it being on that label with Britney, NSYNC, and your brother and his group, the Backstreet Boys?
It feels really good. Its so exciting to have so many big artists there because theyve become so successful.
Is it hard being compared to your brother?
Like with everything else, I have been getting used to it. Im always being asked about my brother and being compared to him, so I dont expect it to end really, but it is really fine with me.
I read that your sister was signed as well. Were you brought up around music?
Yeah. We have all been brought up around music. My mom and dad would sing, and if we got grounded we would get locked in our rooms with music. (laughs) Im kidding. But we did grow up around it.
What did you grow up listening to?
Journey, Jimmy Buffett, really old stuff, but not Elvis old. (laughs)
Youre not an Elvis fan?
(laughs) Not really.
With touring, recording, and everything that comes with being away from home, how do you keep up with school?
My mom hired a tutor. I just kind of stopped going to public school.
Are you ever worried about getting too big, in the sense that you lose your ability to do normal things?
Not really. I cant really imagine being super popular, I guess.
Is it tough being away from your friends?
Its actually not that tough. I get to see them a lot.
What do you do on your days off?
I like to ride my motorcycle, go fishing, and stuff like that. We have a home in Florida too, but I barely ever get to go there. Im in California the most, and honestly I dont like it as much here. I like it better in Florida because that is where I was born.
Where did the nickname the Little Prince Of Pop come from?
My mom I thought came up with it. (his mom says no in the background). Well, I guess she didnt then. (laughs, his mom tells of a story of a reporter in England who gave her that idea)
