Adema – Adema

Artist: Adema
Title: Adema
Label: Arista
Rating: 4/10

Any group using their connection to someone else as their stepping-stone should be in for a rude awakening. However, Bakersfield-based Adema seem to have done it and done it well. Lead singer Mark Chavez is the half-brother of Korn frontman Jonathon Davis. I guess that makes it okay for them to rip off the Korn sound, along with every other generic rock band out there. There isn’t anything on this album that I haven’t already heard. Rap-rock with bland choruses and simple guitar riffs flood the album, and Mark even goes as far as trying to sound exactly like Jonathon on pretty much every track. I looked for a guest appearance, but couldn’t find one.

The album’s first single, “Giving In”, will fit in well with the Papa-Linkin-Bizkit crowd, who seem to enjoy their music spoon fed to them. Production on the album is stellar, but why wouldn’t it be? How else does a band with this kind of talent get recognized? The genre was already filled, so why not another? Adema needs to craft their own sound before they can be considered truly talented. All of the bands today can play; it’s just distinguishing themselves from everyone else that they have a problem with.
