Roseanne: Halloween Special DVD

Roseanne: Halloween Special
Cast: Roseanne
Studio: Anchor Bay
Rating: 8.5/10

THE STORY: Most TV shows celebrated the holiday season with warm & fuzzy Christmas specials. But for the cast, crew and creators of ROSEANNE, the year’s best celebrations always belonged to Halloween. In these seven classic episodes, the Conners unleash tricks and treats on one of the greatest sitcoms in television history.

THE REVIEW:
BOO! – In this Emmy®-nominated fan favorite, the Conners kick off a family tradition with a night of increasingly outrageous pranks. This is one of the best episodes of Roseanne ever. Its must see spooky TV.

TRICK OR TREAT – When Roseanne wears a lumberjack costume, she learns a few hilarious lessons about ‘real’ men. It’s especially funny to watch Roseanne talk smack and almost get beaten up by a guy who thinks she’s male.

TRICK ME UP, TRICK ME DOWN – Jackie flirts with a moose, Roseanne pranks the new neighbors and George Clooney guest stars. This episode pales to the previous two episodes—however Dan and Roseanne do a funny act as ventriloquists.

HALLOWEEN IV – Having lost her holiday spirit, Roseanne is visited by the ghosts of Halloween past, present and future. This is a good episode that revisits different times in Roseanne’s life—ala Scrooge.

HALLOWEEN V – It’s Halloween night at the diner, but the real shocks are about to come from some very unexpected places.

SKELETON IN THE CLOSET – A Halloween party at The Lunch Box brings out Leon’s gay friends as well as Bev’s hair-raising secret.

HALLOWEEN: THE FINAL CHAPTER – Ed McMahon and Sarah Chalke guest star when Roseanne’s ouija board delivers the most unexpected news of all.

Each episode slowly slips downhill. Halloween was still on the families mind—however no episode is nearly as timeless as the first.

THE EXTRAS: Roseanne does a fun commentary on the episode “Trick Me Up! Trick Me Down!” Roseanne is her usual smart-alecky self and it works great. It might have been more interesting had Roseanne gave comments during each episode or offered just one featurette with behind-the-scenes info on the episodes.

FRANKLY: Roseanne: Halloween Special is brilliant. The first season was a must buy just to get the great Halloween special and now you can get them all on one DVD!
