Beavis & Butt-Head: The Mike Judge Collection Volume 3 DVD

Beavis & Butt-Head
Cast: Mike Judge
Studio: Paramount
Rating: 7/10

CORPORATE LINE: Heroes. Villains. Visionaries. Butt-munches. Beavis & Butt-Head have been called a lot of things. Smart isn’t usually one of them, but groundbreaking is. In this third installment of the earth-shattering Mike Judge Collection, the boys are back with more of their wisecracking, fart-knockingly-genius ways. Whether they make your stomach hurt from laughing, or because you have to, you know…one thing is for sure, Beavis & Butt-Head changed comedy and animation forever.

THE REVIEW: Once again this Beavis & Butt-head DVD comes with the “best of.” The final couple of seasons of Beavis & Butt-head arrive in this—the third volume. Some of the episodes aren’t great—while some are absolutely brilliant. None are as funny as the original episodes—but “Cow Tipping”, Way Down Mexico Way”, and “Heroes” are some of the best Beavis & Butthead material. The batches of Christmas episodes are some of the best. Beavis & Butt-head do A Christmas Carol and Its A Wonderful Life in “It’s A Miserable Life”. Finally, there is the best episode “Vaya Con Cornholio” which is Beavis in all his hilarious glory. This proves that Beavis was the star.

THE EXTRAS: One of the least funny—but most interesting featurettes is the original, uncut Beavis & Butt-head short “Frog Baseball”. This is the introduction to Beavis & Butthead and isn’t necessarily funny.

There are fifteen music videos inter-cut with classic Beavis & Butt-head commentary, including Soundgarden, Alice Cooper and Sonic Youth which are all dated. Dated or not-they are still funny thanks to the commentary by Beavis & Butthead.

There is a featurette of rare special appearances and promos.

“Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-head, Part 3” is a fun featurette with the creators of the show. The most interesting is Mike Judge. It’s fun to listen to him discuss the show.

FRANKLY: You either love or hate Beavis & Butt-head. Fans of the series have to own all three volumes—however you might be disappointed that all episodes aren’t included.
