Welcome to the lives of the Stratford sisters, Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) and Kat (Julia Stiles). Bianca is the popular, pretty, and desperate to date younger sister, while Kat is opinionated, ill tempered, and doesn’t want to date anyone from her side of the country. Their father, Walter (Larry Miller), decides to bend his strict rule of no dating; the new rule is that when Kat dates, Bianca can date. Since Kat’s cutting wit alienates any guy attracted to her, their father thinks that he has solved the problem.
Desperate to start dating Joey Donner (Andrew Keegan), Bianca involves herself in a tortuous scheme to find her sister Kat a match. Along with Bianca are others who want to help her with this match making. Cameron James (Joseph-Gordon Levitt) involves himself for the benefit of hopefully dating Bianca and his friend Michael Eckman (David Krumholtz) tries his best to assist him. The menacing Patrick Verona ( Heath Ledger) is eventually deemed the suitable mate.
The movie has many flaws. Many of the scenes do not flow into one another and the rest of the time the scenes dragged on and on. It took director Gil Junger a while to mention that the two girls are sisters. Also, the make-up artists did too nice of a job on Joey; he was as pretty as Bianca. From eyeliner to lipstick, it was too much.
The movie did have some redeeming elements. You’ll love their principal, Ms. Perky (Allison Janney), and the paramount scene where bad boy Patrick uses his vocals to win Kat’s heart. The title, 10 Things I Hate About You, doesn’t suit the movie. It’s just not worth the money.
