CORPORATE LINE: Jason Statham returns in his signature role: ex-Special Forces operative Frank Martin, aka “The Transporter.” Now retired in Miami, Martin makes a living driving for a wealthy family, including twin brothers with whom he has unexpectedly bonded. But when the boys are abducted, Martin must use all his skills to bring them to safety and discover the kidnapper’s master plan.
THE REVIEW: Jason Statham is fun in a role in this tongue-in-cheek action flick. There is a whole lot of action but if this was to be taken seriously we’d have laughed our way out of the theater. Statham’s character Frank gets into an amazing amount of gun fights and always escapes without a nick. Bullets wiz by and he’s luck much to often.
Statham makes the movie watch-able—otherwise it would have been a completely mess. The script is awful. The attempt at comedy is a 50/50 proposition. Statham can deliver a line but doesn’t have much charisma.
The rest of the cast is replete with uninteresting characters and actors. Kate Nauta who plays Lola, a crazy woman who likes to shoot at people in her underwear, can’t muster up a terrorizing character. Alessandro Gassman is supposed to be the bad guy but there is nothing scary about him. And the usual comedic relief, sidekick Tarconi (Francois Berleand), is perfectly annoying—at this point it’s a cliché of a cliché.
FRANKLY: All of its 88 minutes are about the special effects which are out of this world, never could happen, and stupid beyond belief. If you need a plot to keep you interested than you are certain to be let down, but if you go just for the action you’ll be satisfied—barely.
