Showtime

Showtime
Cast: Eddie Murphy
Studio: Warner Bros.
Rating: 5/10

Eddie Murphy has seen his once prodigious career head down the toilet in the ’90’s. He’s tried in vain to bring that career out of the sewer. Well Showtime isn’t going to do that. Even with the great straight man Robert De Niro at his side there is no one who can save this corny film.

De Niro plays a LAPD detective who is made to work with an over the top officer played by Murphy. Murphy’s character Trey Sellars wants to be the next big tv action cop. Well Murphy is stiff, I mean for someone that is supposed to be over the top and so ready to make it in the big time he is flat. There is nothing exuberant about his work.

There is pity to be handed out. De Niro has found himself in a comedy that is not funny. De Niro acts his part well, but Murphy cannot hold up his end of the bargain. Murphy’s overacting and ‘love me’ work does nothing but put you off.
