CORPORATE LINE: Emmy Award-winning cartoonist Matt Groening’s “The Simpsons” are back on DVD when “THE SIMPSONS” THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON DVD COLLECTION arrives from Fox Home Entertainment. Showcasing all 25 episodes from the acclaimed sixth season, including the season cliffhanger “Who Shot Mr. Burns?,” “THE SIMPSONS” THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON arrives loaded with special features. “THE SIMPSONS” THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON contains bonus material that includes an introduction from creator Matt Groening, audio commentary on every episode, the television special “Springfield’s Most Wanted”, special featurettes, multi-angle animation showcases on select episodes, deleted scenes, a special language feature, commercials, illustrated commentaries, and much more.
THE EPISODES: Twenty-five episodes of the Simpsons is quite a treat—and it is. Some of the best episodes are:
Bart of Darkness – A great take on Hitchcock’s Rear Window when Bart breaks his leg and can’t use the new pool.
Lisa’s Rival – Winona Ryder guest voices as Lisa’s rival as the smartest girl in school.
Itchy And Scratchy Land – A brilliant episode where the Simpson’s go to Krusty’s amusement park and get a surprise ending when the robots come to life.
Homer Badman – Homer’s lust for candy gets him into deep water when he pulls the gummy Venus de Milo from his babysitter’s rear-end.
Homer the Great – Homer finds out he is the Chosen One in a secret society.
Bart vs. Australia – Bart goes to Australia to apologize for a prank phone call only to get into more trouble.
A Star is Burns – Springfield holds a film festival and what wins? Football to the groin of course.
DVD FEATURES: It’s amazing that there are commentaries on all twenty-five episodes. The commentaries run the gamut from very informative and entertaining to slightly interesting.
A few other extras are commercials for 1-800-Collect and Church’s Chicken and “Deleted Scenes.” There is an “Art & Animation” that shows sketches, animation showcases, and animatics.
FRANKLY: The episodes and extras are brilliant. This is definitely worth every penny. The one and only issue is the packaging. Sure it looks cool and good for a laugh the first time you see it, but it’s flimsy and doesn’t fit on your DVD shelf. There are so many good episodes that it would be impossible to choose a favorite. The sixth season is a must own.
