Reindeer Games

Reindeer Games
Cast: Ben Affleck
Studio: Dimension
Rating: 5/10

I didn’t expect anything from Reindeer Games and that’s just about what it delivered. It’s smooshed into just over an hour and a half and has more plot twists than Scream, so I don’t think you’ll be surprised to find that the film was written by Ehren Kruger (Scream 3). That is pretty much what keeps this film interesting.

There is weak acting all around, most of all by Ben Affleck. Charlize Theron and Gary Sinise make the movie at least enjoyable. Theron shows some frontal nudity to the delight of male viewers and Sinise is completely buff to the delight of the female viewers, so it’s a wash. Theron is a twisted character who successfully plays off of both Affleck and Sinise. Sinise plays his bad guy well, but his dopey henchmen are only worth a few one-liners that aren’t even good enough to tell your friends about, fading quickly from memory.

I don’t want to tell you a lot about the plot; I might give too much away and ruin all enjoyment. So here’s the short version.

******possible spoiler ahead******

Affleck is a convict named Rudy who gets mixed up with Ashley, a girl who thinks he is Rudy’s cellmate, Nick. Ashley has a crazy brother, or so it seems. Nick was an ex-casino security guy, so Ashley’s crazy brother Gabriel forces Rudy to help rob the casino on Christmas Eve. Confused? Well, every few minutes there’s some sort of plot twist, so don’t go to the bathroom, because when you come back you might not know who anybody is.

After a record amount of plot twists, the end comes along and just ruins everything. Perhaps you’ll find the ending more enjoyable than I. I thought it seemed far-fetched and annoying, but I talked to a few people after the show who found it to be an exciting ending. So what do I know? See it for yourself. The final decision is yours.
