The Film Studio Synopsis: Based on the short story by Philip K. Dick, MINORITY REPORT is set in a 2054 Washington D.C. judicial system in which killers are arrested and convicted before they commit murder using a psychic technology. Tom Cruise is the head of this Precrime unit and is himself accused of the future murder of a man he hasn’t even met.
The Good: The visuals. If you want futuristic eye candy Minority Report will blow you away. Thankfully there is more here than meets the eye. The story is good. It’s not all that complicated, Hitchcock would have figured it out in under five minutes, however it is enticing and keeps you locked in the whole way. Tom Cruise is better here than either two of Mission Impossible.
The Bad: The visuals. This film could have been done without all the visuals. Yes I know, then how could one see the future? Well call a Psychic, can’t they read the future? Silly I know, but that’s all we are talking about here. The visuals did nothing more than to spruce up a thin storyline. And what’s up with the wooden balls. With all this technology floating around and everything comes down to two wooden balls? Okay. Good idea, can you hear the sarcasm flowing?
Frankly: This film in visuals alone holds its own to A.I.’s, it’s the substance that kicks A.I.’s ass. Although A.I. seemed deep it was much like Minority Report, looks over substance, however Minority Report doesn’t ending up boring you to death and going on too long. Cruise is damn good in his role and makes this sci-fi thriller go.
