In real life it’s only been about three years since the original The Mummy was released on the world. We spent our hard-earned money to see special effects thrown all over the place and a script so weak you never wanted to go back. Well, now The Mummy Returns and he is bringing the same old story.
In film years it’s eight years later and Rick (Brendan Fraser) and his wife Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) O’Connell are with child, an eight-year-old son, Alex (Freddie Boath). And while they are off in London across the desert, something is ready to set free Imhotep. Oh no! And since we’ve already seen the scary mummy once before, they’ve added another foe, The Scorpion King (The Rock). Both want to take over the world and there is only one man who can stop them. Do you even have to guess?
This is such a rip-off of the Indiana Jones series that it’s almost embarrassing. But because the first film pulled such bucks, you knew a sequel wouldn’t be too far behind. So here we are to suffer through another mess. It has no plot, is lame, and if you are entertained then more power to you. Personally, I’ll go and shake the dust off my Indiana Jones videos since I’m sure that will at least entertain me. If we don’t spend money to see this film, maybe they won’t make another. And what would they try next? The Mummy on Mars perhaps? Yikes.
