CORPORATE LINE: American ambassador Robert Thorn and his lovingly dedicated wife are expecting a child. But when the infant is stillborn a mysterious Italian priest convinces the diplomat to clandestinely adopt another of the hospital’s newborn children. Thorn takes the priest’s advice without telling his wife about their loss. After five short happy years together, things start to go wrong: the family’s au pair commits suicide, Father Brennan warns Robert about the child’s strange nature, and an archaeologist tries to convince ambassador Thorn that the boy is the anti-Christ incarnate.
THE EXTRAS:
There is a plethora of extras that starts with a commentary by director Richard Donner & writer/director Brian Helgeland. And then the amazing featurettes that including “Curse or Coincidence,” “Jerry Goldsmith Discusses The Omen Score,” “666: The Omen Revealed,” and “The Omen Legacy.” Wow. It’s amazing that there are so many good extras from a movie that is nearly 30 years old.
Finally, there is a “Screenwriter’s Notebook” with screenwriter David Seltzer and “An Appreciation: Wes Craven on The Omen” interview featurette and deleted scenes.
THE OMEN
FRANKLY: The Exorcist kicked off terrifying movies about the anti-Christ and very few lived up to the horrifying original—The Omen is the rare classic film that lives. With the Collector’s Edition full of interesting extras, you should run out and buy The Omen. Even now The Omen is as creepy as it was twenty years ago when I saw it for the first time.
