Kaci Brown – Instigator

Kaci Brown
Artist: Kaci Brown
Title: Instigator
Label: Interscope
Rating: 5.5/10

CORPORATE LINE: Hailing from Sulphur Springs, Texas, KACI BROWN is one of the freshest artists to hit the pop music scene in a long time. The 16-year-old musician/singer/songwriter is self taught on guitar and piano, and co-wrote her debut album with red-hot producer Toby Gad. Her songs take you through an exciting musical journey spanning just about every possible style of music out there, coming together in a truly innovative way.

THE GREAT:
“Unbelievable” – Shameless pop song that is an itch you can’t scratch. You’ll be listening to it over and over. For some reason it may remind you of American Idol—or maybe it’s just us.
“My Baby” – Brown has a Kylie Minogue thing happening and its sexy.

THE AVERAGE:
“Instigator” – Attempts to be a bad-ass pop song but doesn’t have the hook to make it happen.
“Cadillac Hotel” – Brown is a chameleon. This sounds more like a Jewel song.
“The Waltz” – Brown has a sexy voice it’s a shame the song isn’t as hot as her voice.

THE BAD:
Nothing.

FRANKLY: Kaci Brown isn’t unique. She’s a pop singer trying to find an identity. Brown could be a sexy pop songstress or a mix between a rock and folk singer—and that is a plus. The problem is Brown doesn’t have songs that are good enough not to be forgotten. It’s a shame that Brown didn’t put together more songs like “My Baby.”
