FILE UNDER: The de-evolution of Toni Braxton.
CORPORATE LINE: Multiple platinum and Grammy winning superstar Toni Braxton is as eager as her fans to release her sixth studio album Libra, on the Blackground/Universal banner, on September 27th. Joined by star producers such as Scott Storch and Vincent Herbert, the highly anticipated disc faithfully embodies the trademark sense of style and soulfulness that has sparked critics across the globe to cast Toni Braxton in the upper echelon of music divas.
THE GREAT:
“I Wanna Be (Your Baby)” – This is the right song for Toni. Too bad there aren’t more tracks that show her age and ability to belt out a good song.
THE AVERAGE:
“Trippin’” – Toni wants to get into the youth movement of pure beats and no lyrics. This is a huge mistake. Now is the perfect opportunity for her to prove she is different and better. Different is always better. This is too much like all the new pop singers.
“Take This Ring” – Sadly this beat sounds too much like Amerie’s “1 Thing.” It’s no surprise that it’s the same producer. Braxton is better than this.
THE BAD:
A lot of songs come close.
FRANKLY: Why does Toni Braxton want to be Britney Spears? You don’t believe me? We have a Britney picture on this site that looks identical to the cover of Libra. Then inside the CD Braxton does more of the near naked spread. What happened to the Diva’s like Whitney, Mariah, and Janet and Braxton? What happened to sexy and classy? Did everyone forget about Tina Turner? She never got buck-naked to sell albums. She has integrity. I hate to take it all out on Toni but she is buying into this garbage. Take a lesson from Alicia Keys—that is class. She sells her songs not her ass.
