Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

The Return Of The King
Cast: Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, John Rhys-Davies
Studio: New Line Cinema
Rating: 10/10

Corporate Line: The Fellowship’s journey is coming to an end. Sauron’s forces have attacked Gondor’s capital of Minas Tirith in his final siege against mankind. Watched over by a fading steward, the once great kingdom has never been in more desperate need of its king. But will Aragorn find the strength to become what he was born to be and rise to meet his destiny? As Gandalf desperately tries to move the broken forces of Gondor to act, Théoden unites the warriors of Rohan to join in the fight. Even in their courage and passionate loyalty, the forces of men – with Éowyn and Merry hidden among them – are no match against the swarming legions of enemies raining down on the kingdom. With each victory comes great sacrifice. Despite their great losses, The Fellowship charges forward in the greatest battle of their lifetime, united in their singular goal to give Frodo a chance to complete his quest. Traveling across treacherous enemy lands, Frodo must rely increasingly on Sam and Gollum as The Ring continues to test his allegiance and, ultimately, his humanity.

The Good: Where to start? Maybe because the film ends that there is a great sense of satisfaction that was missing in these previous films. Maybe it’s the battle scenes or just the grandiosity of this monstrous epic. No matter which of the three films I have seen it’s still near impossible to describe the feeling. These are unlike any films that have been made in my life.

The scenery again is magic. The cities, the mountains, the cities in the mountains, and the amazing costumes and makeup leave you in awe. I don’t want to give away too much but when the soldiers of the mountains are hardcore.

You could watch the movie over and over again and I’d dare you to come up with one thing that leaves you in despair. And even with all the majesty it’s hard to point to one aspect that leaves you feeling so fulfilled. Writing about it is no easy task. This is one of those times where it’s almost best to say that you must see it for yourself. Rare is the time that a film moves you and is yet pure fantasy. The Return of the King is that rare movie.

The Bad: The film is three and a half hours long and still it seemed rushed towards the end. Give me more!

Frankly: Never has such an epic film been made. If you want to compare this to Star Wars and you’d fall short. No matter the epic battle scene, no matter the film, no matter how you try and talk your way around it The Return Of The King is the king of epic films.
