When Jet Li last played Romeo in Romeo Must Die, American fans weren’t all that interested. All the wires, all the action was just too Matrix-esque. Well, Jet Li is back, and it’s no high wire act this time around.
What Kiss Of The Dragon did was bring back memories of great films that Jet Li has done in the past, like Fist Of Legend. The beauty is that the fighting takes over but doesn’t take away from the plot as it did in Romeo Must Die. Both were fun, yet Romeo ended up looking like he was fighting for the sake of the action and not the progress of the film. Dragon, however, is an action film and that makes it feel more alive.
Jet Li again plays the silent, strong type. Anyone that knows Li knows this is his best. He’s not a talker, and action has always been his best asset. Dragon allows him to hit on his strengths. The same can’t be said for Bridget Fonda. She is the opposite in all aspects and really ruins what could have been a solid film.
Kiss Of The Dragon is violent. It’s action packed. It may be a man movie. It may be boring on occasion. But all of that said, it’s one of the best fighting flicks you’ll see for some time.
