Boyz II Men were once the biggest group on the planet. It was these Boyz who opened the boy band door once again so that Backstreet could ride in on their coattails. Then they took years off and the world all but forgot about them. Now they’re back, looking to reclaim their golden title.
“Beautiful Women” is a decent single, but hardly compares to “Motownphilly” or “End Of The Road”. “Good Guy” sounds like something out of the songbook of Destiny’s Child or TLC. Since when does Boyz II Men need to copy everyone else? I thought they were the trendsetters, but I guess those days are past. “Bounce, Shake, Move, Swing” tries to step into electronica, but it’s just unbelievably cliched and antiquated.
“Dreams” gets back to the roots of what made Boyz II Men great. A beautiful melody, amazing vocals and a lot of soul. “I Do” opens a cappella, showing they’re as tight as ever.
Boyz II Men can still be the best; they just need to settle into a pattern and not stray so far from their strengths. They are four of the best singers in the world who just need to get it together again.
